Team Building - Winter Programs

Some of Home On The Range Adventure Tours’ best team building programs are in winter!

They're unique, challenging, fun and they keep everyone moving and warm. The best length of time for a winter event is between 1 ½ and 2 ½ hours. We can combine a selection of winter-only events such as Snow Sculptures and Igloo Building with some of our favourite year round activities.

We can combine a selection of events to create ½ days or whole days of activity. These activities can of course be extended to incorporate as many ½ or whole days as desired. And, we can divide your group into any number of teams that will spend the day competing in, enjoying, and learning from an assortment of events and challenges.

Groups can often complete 3 - 4 of our individual events within an hour to an hour and a half, and can comfortably complete 5 of our events within a three hour time frame. All of our activities are easily adaptable to group size and many can be conducted either indoors or outdoors.

As with our summer team building programs we divide the group into teams that spend ½ day periods competing in an assortment of events and challenges. All activities in the program are suitable for individuals of all ages and all physical capabilities. And, we can combine a selection of events to create as many whole day or multi-day activities as desired.

Pricing will vary depending on the number of individuals participating in an event, on the length of the event, and on the particular team building event selected. Ask us for an exact price based on your group and your specific choice of activities.

Winter Program Examples

Here are some exciting examples of possible Winter Programs to pursue with your team.

Snow + Sun = Winter Creativity & Fun!
Winter Snow Hut and Shelter Building	Snowshoe Obstacle Course
Spend some time learning how to build snow shelters in winter. You'll be amazed at how easy it is, how strong the shelters are and how warm they are inside. A great survival skill! And destroying the structures after completion is great fun too!	Who knew snowshoeing could be so much fun? Team members must get over, under and through a maze of obstacles to complete the relay-style event, all the while wearing traditional style wooden snowshoes.
Junkyard Dogsleds	Snow Sculptures
When dog power is absent, we can rely on man (or woman) power. First you build a dogsled out of materials you find in a junkpile, plus lots of duct tape; and then rather than trying to tame a pack of snarling pooches, your team will muster racers from its own ranks. The rest of the team provides ballast in the sleds and "mushes" to the finish line.	Let your creative side out! Frosty the Snowman is nothing compared to the sculpturing possibilities that are out there when a team gets working together. Over the years, we've seen some amazingly brilliant and unique sculptures - Volkswagens, ski hills, living room suites - built using nothing but shovels and scrapers. An excellent way to focus on group dynamics.

Giant Ski Event
If one person on a pair of skis is efficient, then obviously 4-5 people on a pair of skis are more efficient, right? We have set up a slalom course to test this theory. Using teamwork, each group must step at the same time, turn together and reach the finish line as fast as they can. Teams that work together the best will finish the fastest.

Animal Puzzler
In front of you, are approximately 70 - 3 feet x 3 feet puzzle pieces. Each puzzle piece is part of an animal that is native to the Rockies. There are 7 different animals that can be constructed. Your team's task is to successfully complete one puzzle in the shortest time, and correctly identify the animal.
Stranded!
A storm has left your climbing party stranded on a narrow ledge. A path of stepping stones large enough for one person can lead you to a cave for shelter. As you leave the ledge you realize that you have left your locked survival boxes behind and the keys are around the necks of the people who left first. Now you need to get the people with keys back to the survival boxes to get the equipment. One wrong step could send you tumbling off the mountain!

Design your own Unique Event

Remember to ask the Home On The Range Adventure Tour staff to help you design and build the perfect program for you. In the past we've developed programs as varied as overnight road rally events, western themed and sports themed game events, orienteering courses, in fact, all of the programs listed above were at one time unique events in their own right.

You can also combine a team building event with a keynote presentation to build additional employee value into your event. Or you can include guided hikes walks, snowshoe trips, slide presentations, and sightseeing tours, to create a complete Rocky Mountain package.

Johnston Canyon Icewalk®

(Available for Calgary & Banff departures)

Trek through Johnston Canyon to a world of frozen waterfalls and pillars of blue ice. This Interpretive guided walk along the canyon bottom and over suspended catwalks leads you past waterfalls frozen in mid-stream, and through a short tunnel for a close up view of the Lower Falls! The grand finale is the incredible "Cathedral of Ice" at the Upper Falls. It's the perfect destination for a hot chocolate break (provided) and a chance to see ice climbers in action.

A gentle hike suitable for all ages and abilities. Ice cleats are provided for all hikers.

Snowshoe at the Continental Divide

Fur Traders had to snowshoe for survival. Now we snowshoe for enjoyment! Follow in the footsteps of a Fur Trader - (no hard work, we promise!) for a true to life Rocky Mountain adventure. Led by professional interpretive guides a journey of discover awaits you in pristine snow covered forests and along the banks of frozen rivers. Track wildlife, learn about winter ecology and have a snowy good time!

A gentle hike suitable for all ages and abilities. Guide and Snow shoes are provided for all hikers.
