Rocky Mountain Circle Tour

9 Nights/10 Days

Experience three world-class alpine mountain resorts: Banff, Lake Louise and Jasper - charming towns and friendly people. This area is abundant in beauty and wonder: spectacular waterfalls, alpine wildflowers and all encompassing mountains. Explore historic sites, relax in steaming mineral pools, ride a horse and walk on a glacier. Spend time exploring Edmonton, Alberta’s capital and home of the West Edmonton Mall (the world’s largest shopping mall), before returning to Calgary.

ITINERARY

DAY 1 – Calgary

Pick up your rental vehicle and spend the day exploring Calgary. Established by the North West Mounted Police in 1875, the city's population now numbers just over one million. Don't miss Heritage Park Historical Village, a "living museum” with costumed interpreters, a steam train, a scale-model sternwheeler, an old-fashioned candy store and much more. And, after checking out the local restaurants and shopping locations settle into your room at the Fairmont Palliser for the night.

DAY 2 – Calgary - Banff

Take the short drive, approximately one and one-half hours, from Calgary to Banff National Park. Spend your afternoon at leisure visiting or shopping in Banff town site. Overnight at Brewster’s Mountain Lodge, Banff.

DAY 3 – Banff

Take a full day to explore Banff and area. In the town site you'll find lots of excitement - shopping, cafes, nightlife, and museums. Check out the Cave and Basin National Historic Site, birthplace of Banff National Park.. Take the eight minute ride up the Banff Gondola and savour the incredible panoramic view, and then take a dip in the hot mineral pools at the newly-renovated Upper Hot Springs. Overnight at Brewster’s Mountain Lodge.

DAY 4 – Banff - Lake Louise

Another great day in the Rockies. Travel the short distance (approximately 45 minutes) from Banff to Lake Louise. Along the way, and at the Lake, there are plenty of outdoor activities; rent a canoe, take a lakeside stroll or hike, go horseback riding or simply relax and contemplate the lake's remarkable emerald beauty! Overnight at lake Louise Inn, Lake Louise.

DAY 5 – Lake Louise - Jasper

Another great day in the Rocky Mountains - travel from Lake Louise to Jasper along the amazing Icefields Parkway. You're sure to be enthralled by the scenery, wildlife, incredible blue lakes and sparkling waterfalls enroute. Stop for a self-guided interpretive walk at Peyto Lake, don't miss the Columbia Icefield Visitor Centre and a ride onto the Athabasca Glacier via the Ice Explorer, and take time out to visit Sunwapta and Athabasca Falls. Overnight at Pyramid Lake Resort, Jasper.

DAY 6 – Jasper

Welcome to Jasper, a charming mountain village close to many scenic highlights. Take a tram ride up Whistlers Mountain, a boat cruise on Maligne Lake, soak in the pools at Miette Hot Springs or hike Maligne Canyon. Enjoy watching the sunset over Pyramid and Patricia lakes. Then, after the sun sets take a stroll and perhaps you’ll be fortunate enough to witness the greenish white beams of the Northern Lights illuminating the night sky. Overnight at Pyramid Lake Resort.

DAY 7 – Jasper - Edmonton

Welcome to Edmonton; Alberta’s capital city and one of the richest and most dynamic arts communities in Canada. Sports fans will be thrilled with the variety and calibre of Edmonton’s teams. From the Edmonton Trappers (PCL baseball) to the Edmonton Eskimos (CFL football), the action never stops. The Provincial Museum of Alberta is one of Canada’s five most popular museums and is home to the internationally acclaimed Syncrude Gallery of Aboriginal Culture, one of North America’s most expansive exhibitions on aboriginal peoples. And of course there’s West Edmonton Mall. Overnight at Fantasyland Hotel, Edmonton.

DAY 8 – Edmonton'

Even if you are not a shopper, West Edmonton Mall has plenty to offer; an amusement park, water park, sea lions, ice palace, movie theatres, casinos, bungee jump, mini golf and arcades, billiards, bowling, theme streets and more! If you enjoy architecture and/or politics visit the picturesque Alberta Legislature - a local landmark worth checking out. Edmonton, referred to as the festival city, also offers plenty of golf courses, nearby access to the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village, the Royal Alberta Museum and Old Strathcona – a historic neighborhood containing buildings dating back to 1891. Overnight at Fantasyland Hotel.

DAY 9 – Edmonton - Calgary

Follow Highway #2 (The Queen Elizabeth Highway) from Edmonton to Calgary. Spend the remainder of your day in Calgary checking out the shopping, restaurants, cafes and nightlife. Perhaps you’d prefer something more exciting? Visit Canada Olympic Park (Home of the 1988 Winter Olympics) and ride the Bobsleigh Bullet! Want to try authentic western cuisine for dinner tonight? Mosey on over to Buzzard’s for some great cowboy cookin’ or Ranchman’s Restaurant and bar for some country line dancing and two steppin’! Overnight at Sandman Hotel, Downtown Calgary.

DAY 10 – Calgary

Do you have time to squeeze in one more adventure before your return home? Maybe a visit to the Northern Wilds Exhibit – Calgary Zoo or the Glenbow Museum? Or catch up on some last minute shopping? Today ends your western adventure expedition.
