Rocky Mountain Weddings Experiences:
Native
American weddings are a true reflection of a couple's inner spirituality
and beliefs. For those from another culture, this ceremony offers a truly
distinctive wedding experience. Some couples embrace traditions from their
heritage, and others prefer a more personal approach. Either way, a Native
American wedding offers a unique ceremony that incorporates a respect and
understanding of individual beliefs and traditions.
Native American culture is composed of many tribes, each with distinct traditions and customs. It is difficult to characterize any aspect of a particular wedding as being uniquely ‘Native American.’ Some traditions are common to many tribes, while others are unique to a single tribe.
Singing
is the dominant form of musical expression, with instrumental music serving
primarily as rhythmic accompaniment. Native American love songs are often
played by men on flutes. Other instruments may include drums, rattles and
whistles.
Native American weddings are simple yet elaborate ceremonies. Simple because traditionally not a lot of preparation was necessary for the location; nature provides its own flowers and beauty. Elaborate because of the importance placed on sacred vows, tradition and prayer.
Smudging:
This is done to purify the body mentally, spiritually, physically and emotionally
using either sage or sweet grass. As the smoke rises into the heavens it
carries our prayers and well wishes to the Creator and into the universe.
Opening Prayer: Praying for blessings from the spirit world
and the Creator.
Wedding Ceremony
Blanket Ceremony & Binding Wrists: This is done to
signify acceptance and blessings from the couple’s respective families.
The binding signifies the couple’s union in the physical life and
also the spiritual realm.
Closing Prayer: Praying for blessings from the spirit world
and the Creator.
Drumming: Traditional Native American Wedding ceremony
drum accompaniment
Gifting of Tobacco: The tobacco offering is to express
the couple’s sincerity in asking for prayers and to pay their respects
to Mother Earth and the medicines used for the smudging. It also opens the
doors to the Spirit realm. Tobacco was traditionally held in the highest
esteem as it was used in the peace pipe.
Price: $2579.00 (price may vary slightly depending on location) plus GST.
