Come and spend a relaxing and rejuvenating time during a 5 or 7 day ranch stay.
On this page:
This is a true Alberta working ranch experience. You head
back in time at historic Lucasia Ranch. Join ranch cowboys as they herd
cattle through the picturesque Porcupine Hills of southwestern Alberta.
Surround yourself with
4000 acres of vast open country. Herds of elk and deer mingle with Texas
Longhorns and Crossbred cattle, as well as Percheron, Appaloosa and
Quarter horses.
Established in 1881 this Alberta foothills ranch stands as
testament to a bygone era. After a day in the saddle, you can spend the
evening beside a campfire or relaxing on the deck. Taste the crystal
clear spring water that flows through the ranch yard into a pond that is
home to colourful ducks and geese.
The main ranch home has two guest rooms. Or, you can experience pioneer life and stay in the refurbished 1900s log cabin.
Guests take part in daily ranch activities, which may
include riding with your hosts to check cattle and horses, fence mending
and general ranch activities, as well as seasonal round-ups of cattle.
Other ranch options include team roping practice and learning the basics
of roping the dummy. Or perhaps you would like to challenge someone to a
game of horseshoes, enjoy an evening of fire pit camaraderie or hike
the hills and watch for birds and other wildlife.
There’s no need to be in a hurry this morning. You will
enjoy another breakfast before heading off down the trail on your return
journey through the rolling foothills scenery to Calgary.

You’ll find Sierra West nestled under the Livingstone Mountain Range in Southwestern Alberta. Here the prairies rise up to meet the rolling foothills and continue on to the pristine mountains. The breath-taking scenery is second to none and you will often catch a glimpse of the abundance of wild life in the area. This is an authentic working cattle ranch where you can stay in one of two self-catered log cabins – offer all the amenities including stove, fridge, microwave, water coolers, pots & pans, dishes, TV, VCR and full bath – and enjoy the clean mountain air (and fishing) on the banks of Todd Creek. One cabin is the original log homestead from 1905 (Homesteader), and the other is newly finished (Sundowner) with an eye to our guests’ comfort.
Do you want to bring your own horse? If so, here for your pleasure, you will find barns, corrals, a riding and roping arena plus Texas Longhorn cattle to work. And for those who just want to experience the cowboy way of life – horseback riding and/or beginner roping lessons are available. Fishing, canoeing, snowmobiling, and sightseeing are only minutes away. The ranch is in close proximity to forest reserves, natural lakes and man made dams. And, Waterton Lakes National Park and many other points of interest lie within leisurely driving distance.
